Charity Coordinator's Update 31/3/09
March 31st, 2009Being described as a razor dodging workshy retiree sort of guy with to much time on his hands was, if not entirely true, fairly close to the mark. As it turned out the challenge was gratefully accepted and although not averse to communicating with people on various levels I found the business of drumming up support a little daunting but with such effort being put into the preparation for this event resolved to do my best.
I have to say that without the support of my good friend Will Richardson this task would have been a lot harder.
Will runs Hunsley Acoustic Music nights at the Half Moon pub in Elloughton on a monthly basis and any profit he makes is given to the Teenage Cancer Trust, one of Mike’s preferred charities.
On the 14th March Will organised a fabulous night of music at the Village Hall, Elloughton featuring Paul Liddell and Elbow Jane. There wasn’t a spare seat in the house and Will not only promoted Mike’s efforts on the night but generously allowed the raffle proceeds to be given towards the supported charities.
The response was (as were the donated prizes) superb.Just over £500.00 was raised on the night.
As a result of local advertising much more support was promised in sponsorship and services, such as pre race sports physiotherapy from Hugh Crossland at North Ferriby and other scources who I will acknowledge in a round up post when the sponsorship closes.
The donation facility on the site is still open (and secure!) for business folks, just as the race and the pain Mike is sure to experience in the next few days.
Thanks to all for your support.
Charity Campaign Manager
February 2nd, 2009
In the final run up to the big date and in an effort to get as much money in as possible for the fine causes mentioned previously, I have recruited a razor dodging, workshy retiree with too much time on his hands and mischief to avoid.
Namely, my Dad. He’s got lots of great ideas and will be publishing some words here as time goes by.
His support has so far been second to non and the fancy new job title suits. I’m definately sticking with “Resident Nutter” though.
Donation Form
December 12th, 2008The donation form on the main part of the site is now up and running and taking payment. It has been Penny Green at the Down’s Heart Group who has made this possible. Please have a look at the site, what lies ahead of me and then donating some cash for the worthwhile charities I have chosen to support.
Website - Better Late than Never
May 21st, 2008It’s been a long time coming, but I have knocked up a bit of a site for the main part of the domain, it’s worth stressing that it’s not tested, spell checked or finished but it’s there, if you have any feedback I would love to here it.
Support through the MdS
April 24th, 2008This is yet another thing that has taken a bit longer than I originally proposed but it has now been done, after drawing up a short-list and consulting a few people (thanks Mum!) I have found three suitable charities which I intend to help a little through this event.
