The Marathon des Sables

The Marathon des Sables (MdS) is a 150 (approx.) mile self sufficient footrace accross the Moroccon Sahara Desert. With temperatures of 50C(122F) during the day and 5C (41F) at night and more sand than you can wave a camel at it takes in a variety of terrain, from saltbeds to dunes to stony trails.
Competitors must carry all their own gear and food for the week (minus the tent) and water is rationed on a daily basis.
Next March, after two years of preparation, I will be joining over 700 other competitors from around the world with the sole aim of pitting myself against the searing heat and the desert and pushing both my physical and mental capabilities.
It does all sound a bit serious ... rest assured it will also be great fun.

About

Although there is no covering the fact that for me this is really a personal challenge I have been wanting to complete for a while, because of the massive effort and extroardinary nature of the event I also want to raise as much money for worthy causes as I can.
This site is to support the charity side of my attempt, provide a little infromation on the MdS and give information on how you can donate.
The blog carries lots information on my training, events and general running/ultra-running stuff.

Please have a look round the site if you have any comments let me know through the contact page.
